2024 – 2025 Sailing Season Kicks off with a Bang

Very successful Ice Breaker Regatta

With 39 boats competing in 5 divisions over 6 races the club can be proud that it hosted a very successful regatta. Racing was close in most divisions but as expected some sailors were discovering that the off season layoff had an impact on their “match fitness” particularly in the blustery conditions on Saturday. We witnessed a number of spectacular capsizes in the catamaran divisions.

The catering committee also outdid themselves in keeping the crowd well fed and well lubricated. The bbq sausages in a roll were very popular for lunch as were the loaded baked potatoes. Preceding the evening meal on Saturday, we were treated to a wine tasting from Paul Osicka Wines by their wine maker Simon Osicka a recent addition to our clubs membership. Simon’s entertaining history of the winery (a family business) and obvious knowledge of fine wines was very entertaining. The meal itself was special with a spicy chicken and chorizo paella on offer as well as a vegetarian version for our non-meat eating community. Skillfully prepared by Jose` the consensus from diners was that the delicious level was high.

To make sure that the evening provided the maximum level of entertainment the sailor’s were treated a number of sets from local band “Crazy Chester” with our own Steve Begg laying down the beat on bass.

Events like this are not possible without the many volunteers from our club members that help make it happen. A very big thanks you to all our volunteers.

Cheers
