The ILCA inland championships are done for another year. Over the long weekend the club was buzzing with sailors from around the country. 45 boats competed in 6 races over the Saturday and Sunday. Saturday saw near perfect Eppalock sailing with a good steady breeze all day. Sunday’s conditions started light and were challenging for volunteers to set a course until the wind settled from the south west and solid racing continued. With temperatures into the high 20s it was good to see visitors enjoying a swim and paddle boards closer to shore. Our club offers excellent camping and great overall experience for visitors, with many staying on for 2 days of sail training on the Monday and Tuesday.
These regattas raise considerable funds for the club, but they also rely heavily on the support of club members to volunteer and run the event, lay courses, manage the camping, catering and on shore activities. The money earned through volunteer efforts pays the bills and help keep membership fees low. Thank you to those who gave up their long weekend to enable this.
The Sonata Yacht Association were also out and about launching from the club on Saturday morning and returning at various times over the next four days as they explored the far reaches of the lake. Many of our members participated in what was a most enjoyable exploration. Some visitors left their boats to return in 2 weekends for a cruising workshop.
Kevin Long has commissioned the new pontoon jetty and it was immediately put to good use with trailables and the rescue craft making the most of the increased mooring space. A brilliant addition to our facilities.
